Dress Code

The purpose of the Ventana Vista dress code is to protect the health and safety of children.  Because physical activity is encouraged every day, appropriate clothes and shoes must be worn every day.  Learning is an active process at Ventana Vista; clothing may on occasion become soiled from outdoor play, art or science activities.   Students who dress or wear clothing that is deemed by administration or staff to be inappropriate or disruptive to the educational process may call home for change of clothing. We rely on parental discretion and good judgment to guide students in making appropriate clothing choices for school.

Student Dress Code:

√ Items with obscene or inappropriate words, slogans, or graphics shall not be worn or displayed.

√ The torso is to be covered and no undergarments should be visible.

√ Clothes should not be excessively tight or short, revealing or immodest (e.g., spaghetti straps, low cut tops, tube tops, short shorts).

√  Shoulder straps should be at least one-finger wide.

√  Shorts should come meet at the student’s fingertips when their arms are to the side.

√ Hats are encouraged to protect from the sun, but should be removed when entering buildings (e.g., classrooms, MPR, library, office).

√ Rubber soled shoes, either strapped sandals or closed-toed, should be worn at all times.  “Flip-flops” or other shoes without backs are not appropriate for safe work and play, and therefore are not permitted.   We suggest that your child wear tennis/athletic shoes on days with scheduled physical education classes.

√ Shoes with wheels in the soles ("Wheelies") are not permitted.
